With only a few weeks left of school I imagine you may be feeling a little like I am. The frantic rush to wrap things up in an excellent manner, plan for your children’s activities, travel, and make sure valuable time in the summer is well spent leads to a hectic feeling this time of year.
If you have spent any time on our campus you have probably sensed this same active atmosphere. Elementary programs, awards days, and preparing for graduation are all a part of our daily work. Add to that the worthy effort of sharing what we feel is a great vision for expansion at our West campus, and our plate can be overwhelming! Sometimes it helps to take a step back and remind ourselves of the difference we are making in the lives of our students. Having received this family’s permission, I would like to share a letter I received this week. I hope it will serve as an encouragement and reminder of why Hartfield is called to be Undeniably Different!
Dear. Mr. Horner,
As the school year is quickly approaching the end, I feel led to reach out to you to let you know how much Hartfield has meant to my family this year.
As you know, our son, transferred from a local public school just this past September. That was a tough time for him. He had no friend; well, no ‘real’ friends anyway. He wasn’t involved in any extra-curricular activities, which meant he was never around other kids his age. His grades were suffering, and his self-esteem was at an all-time low. His father and I noticed that he might be slipping into a bit of depression. We were praying. A LOT. It was then that we knew we had to do something.
So we prayed more, and I’ll never forget the day my husband called and said, “We’ve got send him to Hartfield.” My response was, “HOW are we going to afford it??” He said, “We just will”. So, we got out of God’s way, put our faith in HIM instead of ourselves, and He hasn’t let us down yet! God has really blessed us. I get emotional just talking about what Hartfield has meant to us. Every time I walk on to campus, I promise you, I whisper, “Thank you, God, for Hartfield.”’ I can feel God’s presence on that campus.
We have seen a 180 degree change in our son since starting Hartfield. His grades have been better than ever. He actually joined an athletic team, and has NEVER played school sports before! He really enjoyed it and plans to be a part of the team again next year and maybe join another as well. And he smiles a LOT at home, and hangs out with me and my husband, laughing and joking around. It has done this momma’s heart good.
I know Hartfield is very careful in their selection of students, and we are grateful we were accepted. He’s not a straight A student, he’s not a star athlete, and he most likely will not make a 36 on his ACT. But the staff members in the admission process saw past all that. I think they saw something special in him. He needed Hartfield. God knew it, and maybe those staff members knew it and thought maybe Hartfield needed him too?!
Thank you for welcoming our son to Hartfield. I want you to please share this letter with your teachers and staff. Also, please share with the REACH staff how much their work means to us. Those ladies have been an absolute God-send to him. All of his teaches have been amazing, and we are just so thankful for all of them.
We are so looking forward to what God has in store for the next few years at Hartfield. We plan to volunteer our time wherever and whenever the occasion arises, and want you to feel free to contact us for our help if you ever need us!
May God continue to bless Hartfield, the faculty, and, every student past, present and future!
