Middle and High School Principal
Mr. Bakelaar will be entering his third year as the Middle School and High School Principal at Hartfield Academy. He has over 30 years of experience in education, serving as a teacher, coach, and administrator. He has received National Recognition from the White House, where he was awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching, the highest national Mathematics teaching honor.

Assistant Middle and High School Principal/Head Baseball Coach
Jim DeLaughter is entering his 13th year in the MAIS and his fifth year at Hartfield. Jim just completed his first year as the Assistant Principal for the Middle & High School and his fourth year as the head baseball coach. Jim is a graduate of UCS and the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Jim previously coached at Porter’s Chapel Academy and Madison-Ridgeland Academy as a football, basketball and baseball coach, winning two state championships in baseball. Jim is married to Christi and they have one child, Daisy, who is in the 10th grade at Hartfield.
